If you want to know how to block access to certain websites, the first step you need to take is visit the website of FocalFilter and click on the voice download it for free here to download the program on your PC. Once the download has finished, open the file FocalFilter_Setup_November2012.exe (the name may be similiar but not the same) and, in the window that opens, click on Run, Next, check I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Next twice in a row, finally click Install and then Finish to end the installation process of FocalFilter.

There may be an error during the installation if you haven’t installed .Net Framework 4 yet on your PC. It’s a fundamental component to make FocalFilter work. You can download it from the Internet website of Microsoft clicking on the button DOWNLOAD.

After downloading it, run the file dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe and, in the window that opens, click on Yes. Accept then the terms of use checking I have read and agreed to the terms of license, click on Install, Finish and lastly on Restart now to complete the installation process (it will first download all the components needed). A computer’s reboot will be required.

In order to block the access to certain websites using FocalFilter, simply run the program (through the shortcut on the desktop or from the Windows’ Start Menu), click on the button Edit My Site List, type in the address of the websites to block in the window that opens (one for each row) and save the changes clicking on the button Save.

Set then the duration of the block that you wish to apply (eg 30 mins, 1 hour, etc.) using the drop-down menu Block for and start the block of the websites written before clicking on the button Block My Site List.

Once the block has been activated, it’s not possible to remove it untill the timer ends (unless you reboot your PC), so think twice before running it! To make the block effective, you’ve to restart Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox, if they’ve been already started.
